A Busy January...
December 28, 2008
A month in which: Carrie plays her first EVER solo gigs; her new trio (w/Hans & Javi) debuts and plays dates in CA, WA, OR, ID, UT, and NY; "Rag Doll" gets some TV love; she teams up with the fabulous Mary Gauthier for her first ever solo tour (in Scotland & the UK); and we release our first ever website AND live show exclusive CD (more on it later)! Whew...
Carrie Rodriguez’s new album, She Ain’t Me in the U.S. and Canada via Manhattan/Back Porch (EMI) is available NOW in the US and Canada. It will be released on March 9th in the UK, Scotland, & Ireland and will be released in the rest of Europe that month as well via Continental Record Services. It was produced by Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris, Kaki King, etc.). The second single/video from the album, "Absence" will be released in early January in the US and will also be introduced to radio in the UK, Scotland, and Ireland around the dates she's doing there with Mary Gauthier (who she co-wrote the song with). Around the album's release in the UK, the title track will be worked as THE single.
NOTE: Also working on finding a friendly label partner in Australia at the moment.
In January Carrie mixes it up - starting the year with a rare duo date with Hans on 1/3 in Piermont, NY @ The Turning Point. Then debuts her new trio w/Hans & Javi the next night (1/4) in Rosendale, NY @ The Rosendale Cafe. On Monday, 1/5 she plays her first EVER solo show in the friendly confines of The Living Room in NYC. On 1/11 she and the trio play Yoshi's in San Francisco for the first time. After SF, she & the trio begin a short NW run with very special guests KaiserCartel opening all but the Eugene show. Those dates are Seattle, WA @ The Triple Door (1/13), Eugene, OR @ John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts (1/14); Yakima, WA The Season's Performance Center(1/15); Portland, OR @ Doug Fir Lounge (1/16); Boise, ID @ The Grizzley Rose (1/17); Salt Lake City @ Black Box at the Rose Wagner Theater(1/18 - a benefit for UTAHFM.org); and Cedar City, UT @ The Grind Coffeehouse (1/19). Then she & the trio make up the Fall River, MA SNOWED OUT date from December on 1/24 @ The Narrows before Carrie plays one last warm up solo show at The Living Room (1/26) in NYC. Warming up for her first EVER solo shows which kick off in Scotland at the very cool Celtic Connection festival (Jan 29th). She'll open for Mary Gauthier there and in the UK through early February. See TOURING for more details.
On January 16th, "Rag Dolll" can be heard playing in a scene on The Ghost Whisperer (CBS). Tune in and check it out if you can. It's a song written by Carrie's friend and an artist in her own right - Sandrine. It's on the new album.
While opening for Lucinda Williams in April of 2007, we were lucky enough to have Lu's crew professionally record one of Carrie's sets. That full set, from Louisville, KY @ The Palace Theater will be made available in January exclusively at Carrie's shows and on this website. Needless to say, Carrie & the band were in very fine form that night and well - we hope you'll wanna hear it. A huge THANK YOU to Lucinda, her mgmt & crew for gifting this to us.
In February she completes her series of shows with Mary Gauthier in the UK, then returns to the US to do a FREE lunchtime show (trio) for WXPN in Philly on 2/15. Hoping to add a few additional shows in the NE during this window.
See TOURING for more info and details about future dates.
Look for the twelve (12) page feature on Carrie in the No Depression bookzine on newstands now!!!.
